The Common Good Coalition works in conjunction with the Government for the People social movement. Our function is to implement the actions needed to bring about the Common Good State, initially in America and eventually world-wide, as the next higher level of human societies. The common good state has to replace the dysfunctional traditional state, to ensure continued human progress and survival.
The Common Good Coalition is intended to be a mega-coalition of non-partisan organizations
and social activists, united only in their desire to reform the government of the
United States. The currently existing political class must be abolished, so that
meaningful reforms and programs can be implemented. This would result in eliminating,
or at least reducing, our many social and economic problems. Not only would this
bring about a better society for Americans, but it would provide the moral leadership
needed for improving the human condition world-wide.
The Common Good Coalition would endorse reform-minded political parties and political
leaders willing to endorse our principles and goals. The Common
Good Covenant provides a blueprint for what is needed for our nation's (and
the world's) renewal. The Covenant itself would be open for continuous analysis and
improvement for optimum results.
The Government for the People social movement and the Common Good Coalition would
exert the required influence for the neeeded reforms. The wisdom of the Founding
Fathers in creating the original Constitution allows this, without a revolutionary
overthrow of the government. The three branches of our national government would
require different approaches:
The Judicial Branch historically proved itself capable with accepting and
supporting needed reforms. Since our judicial system is working well, no actions
are anticipated by the Common Good Coalition here.
The Legislative Branch is the one most needful for substantial reform. The
need for senators and representatives for massive funding by special interests to
gain and keep their offices is the problem. Fortunately the Constitution can be amended
with the needed changes. A tentative outline of these reforms is summarized in the
attached Reforming
Congress.
The Executive Branch already experienced the most important reform: term limits
for the presidency (Twenty-second Amendment). Historically, major problems of the
nation were met by the right presidencies. The best example of this is the New Deal
of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The attached Transforming
Presidency provides an outline of what is needed here.
A non-profit educational organization, the Human
Progress Network, is the organizer of the mega-coalition. As a think
tank, the organization conducted research into national and world problems. Concluding
that our many problems can only solved through a global approach, the Government
for the People movement and its facilitator, the Common Good Coalition, was initiated.
There are also many associations and coalitions of concerned citizens interested
in social, economic, political and other problems, including women's and children's
issues, peace and justice, and environmental concerns. By incorporating their reasonable
solutions to our problems, their participation in the mega-coalition Common Good
Coalition will be obtained for the successful implementation of the goals of the
Government for the People movement.
There will be many ways you will be able to help. You can provide financial support, to build up the capabilities of the Common Good Coalition. You can volunteer to spread the message to family and friends. You can make suggestions and proposals to make our coalition more effective.
